Men's Health

Men’s health is often neglected when it comes to prevention, early detection, and treatment of diseases. Men must undergo regular health checkups and actively attempt to lead healthier lives. The disorders that commonly affect men include low testosterone, impotence, and prostate disorders.

Testosterone is the male sex hormone produced by the testes. It plays a vital role not only in the maintenance of sexual functions in men but also in preserving overall health. Low testosterone levels have many causes, including primary defects in the testes as well as aging, alcohol consumption, low body mass index, and certain medications. The treatment includes testosterone replacement through exogenous administration of the hormone.

Impotence or erectile dysfunction (ED) affects as many as 30 million men in America. It may be caused by psychological disorders, aging, diseases affecting the integrity of blood vessels (such as diabetes), etc. ED is treated using a combination of lifestyle modifications and medications such as Viagra.

Common prostate disorders include benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer. The incidence of both of these disorders increases with age commonly affecting men in their 50s and 60s. The symptoms include frequent, painful and/or difficult urination. Prostate disorders are treated via hormonal treatments, surgery, and chemotherapy (in the case of cancer).
